Quran Reader for the iPhone

March 1, 2009 3:37 AM
I'm happy to announce our latest iPhone app, Quran Reader. Unlike other Quran applications for the iPhone, Quran Reader gives you the entire Quran in the original Othmani format in Arabic.

Quran Reader lets you flip through and read the Quran the exact same way you would a physical mus'haf. Quran Reader's polished user interface is easy to use and intuitive. Scroll through the index to the Surah you want or enter in the exact page number you want to go to, or jump to one of the bookmarks that you've created. Flip through each page with a swipe of your finger, pinch with two fingers to zoom in or out, or tap on a page to bring up the controls and bookmark a page. Quran Reader will even automatically go back to the last page you were viewing when open it again.

Quran Reader for the iPhone is the pre-cursor to Quran.app for Mac OS X which will now be undergoing development inshAllah.

Though i am a part of the iQuran team, I really thank you for this app .. it fills a gap between iQuran's special table layout and Mobile Holy Quran's single Aya layout .. and brings the familiar printed Quran layout to the iPhone. The more Quran Apps we have the more users will read in their favorite preference.

Quran pages in the app looks really clear and easy to read, I like the red color code on Allah's holy name.

I think the bookmarks page needs to show me the sura name before the page name (sura name is more important i guess) .. but i am wondering why do i see the Hezb sign before every sura name in the index list ? kind of strange.

Anyway, I was sure someone one day will come up with this app.. and it was Batoul Apps .. so Jazakum Allah Khair .. Many users were waiting for this App. And i recommend it to anyone wishing for the normal Quran printed view.

Salam

:)

Assalamu Alaikum wa rahmatu allah.

Jazak allah khair.

I have a request for another app. It would be great to have Hisn Almuslim as an iPhone app, inshallah.

Also, is it possible to implement the Tajweed Quran othmani print instead of the one you're using. It has color highlighting for tajweed and spacing for waqf.

Salam, thanks for the comment. I am definitely considering a duaa app, as for the tajweed I believe that the color coded mushaf is copyrighted and I don't think that I would be able to use it, I will look into it though.

Bandar, thanks for the comment. I have a lot of improvements coming for the bookmarks inshallah. As for the hezb symbol, I just used it to make the surah index look a bit nicer. Do you think its confusing due to the fact thats the hezb symbol?

ameir, Thanks ..

For most users it is not confusing at all .. because we usually never pay attention to the hezb symbol when reading .. and most people just don't recall that sign anyway :)

I bought this app immediately, and I don't regret the purchase. I'm reading Qur'an on the go again. Well done guys, jazakumullah khayr.

When I opened the app, I was initially impressed with the graphics. Then I opened a surah and realised that the pages are all scanned images from a Othmani musHaf. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but the musHaf you've used may have had thin paper, because the other side of the page shows through, especially behind chapter titles. Also, the edges of some of the pages aren't cropped perfectly, which is a little distracting. Finally, some of the pages are a little blurry, which can be rough on the eyes. I hope you can improve this in future updates.

As for the bookmarks, I'm also looking forward to the improvements. In particular, surah names for bookmarks instead of page numbers (perhaps user-editable), reordering of bookmarks, and a button to return to the surah index after opening a bookmarked page (the only way to do that now is to go back to the bookmark index, then again to the surah index).

One final thought, because the pages are scanned, search isn't possible. In the absence of search, a topic index is crucial, IMO. For eg, you could tag each page with metadata on its topics, then a TOC for topics would direct the user to the relevant page. Close enough and good enough.

JAK again, and I'm sure the app will continue to improve.

Jazakallahu khairun for the suggestions Mohammed, we are definitely working on improving Quran Reader and have some great updates in the works that will be coming soon inshAllah.

Ameir,

Jazakumullahu khair for another great app. I haven't visited your site for a while, and unfortunately did not know of the existence of Quran Reader till today. But I bought it immediately since it gives me another choice for Quran reading. I'll try to give a critique of it, if I have constructive feedback.

But on the marketing front, I am wondering if you have access to the Guidance purchase list or another list of interested parties. I certainly would've put my name on the list. And then you could've sent out an email (not too often, just once to announce software releases/updates) to inform your best prospects. Maybe you ought to ask for email address in exchange for the free Guidance app that you give away on the Mac.

I think you're on track to become one of my favorite software providers, and I'd like to see you become more successful, Insha'Allah.

Thanks for the suggestions Naseer, an email list is a great idea. It would definitely not be required to download Guidance but available for people interested in hearing about more projects and updates from Batoul Apps. I'm also definitely looking forward to hearing your feedback about Quran Reader, please note that an update is 90% done and should be released very shortly.

Jazakum Allah Alf khair for Guidance Mac (free) , iPhone , and for such an amazingly beautiful Quran Reader app.. its the best reader on any mobile devise, Ma sha Allah

Request:
1)Please add arabic localization( Sura name and page)- this could be done by using an (i) button to ask for English or Arabic Menu.
2) the Musaf icon that appears once you open the app should be the reverse (i.e. the back ceiling to be on the right hand side)
3) i agree with my brother Mohammed about the transparency of some of the pages issue

4)NEW APP: hisn Al Muslim/ Night & days prayer

Thanks & Jazak Allah Khairn

Salam Abdullah,

Excellent ideas. The Arabic localization is in the works and will be coming very soon inshallah! As for the icon, I will see what I can do about that but I will need to contact the designer and see if he is available to make the change. For the pages, I've increased the contrast on some of these more troublesome pages to help alleviate the issue inshallah.

And yes a Husn Al-Muslim type duaa app is in the works, it will be called "Supplications", we're hoping to get it out in time for Ramadan!

O' alikum Alsalam Dear Amir,

Masha Allah, these are really some great news..

Yes Arabic localization is the priority now..
as for the logo it's only a comment to make an already amazing app even more brilliant.. :)

3 more app request :)
----------------
a) (الفقه على المذاهب الأربعة) dividing topics into section that interest all Muslim
b) Hadith (Sahih albukhari صحيح البخاري) as Al Bukhari app in the appstore
c) Riadh Al Salhien رياض الصالحين..

Thanks & Jazak Allah Khiran
