Guidance 1.3 - Adhan volume, Hijri date and more!
May 31, 2009 3:56 PM
I'm happy to announce the release of Guidance 1.3. This release was made possible by the excellent code contributions of Mahmood Ali, jazakAllahu khairun for your help. This release includes the ability to change the volume at which the adhan is played. It also now shows the Hijri date in the drop down, you can customize the Hijri offset in the advanced settings to match your local moon sightings exactly. The last feature included in this update is the Sparkle updater, this last feature you probably won't notice until the next time an update is released, but then when it is, Guidance will automatically download and install the update by itself!
salaam, just thought id point out that the download link is still linking to version 1.2. even though it says 1.3.
jazakallah khayr for this amazing app.
The link should be fixed now, thanks for pointing it out.
Alhamdulillah! Finally I can see the hijri date without opening firefox! Please do this also for your iPhone app!
Jazak Allah Belkhair, Salam,
Abdulla Q.
Salaam.. Glad to see you are still maintaining this program.. Jazakallah khair.. I have yet to download version 1.3 but I was hoping to see "wake up from Sleep" feature added.. Inshallah i'll perhaps see it in version 1.4.. Keep up the good work and may Allah bless you for your good work.. wslm
Jazakallahu khair for the update. I was excited to see volume control. However, I was expecting it to have setting level independent of system volume setting. I'd like to set the level for the adhan no matter if I've turned down the normal volume. And I'd like independent control of each prayer time, so I can have louder for Fajr and Maghrib and lower for the others, etc.
Will you consider such updates, and what, if any, are the complications or limitations from the OS?
Salam Naseer,
It is not possible to make the volume of any application louder than the system volume. As for setting the volume differently for each prayer time, that would be possible but would make the prayer alerts tab a lot more complicated than it currently is (ie a lot more crowded and a lot more difficult to easily change everything) inshallah I will look into a way to possibly implement this without overloading the user interface.
Jazakallahu khairun for your suggestion.
Is a windows version planned any time in the future? I'd like to have guidance running on my windows machine too. I prefer guidance to what's available on the windows side.
Nez,
I'm sorry we do not have a Windows version planned, we are currently focusing on software for Mac OS X and the iPhone (and iPad).
Salaam Ameir,
Just wondering who the mu'adhin is for the Fajr adhaan? I'd like to find an audio file of his for the other adhaans.
Thanks.
Salam,
The fajr adhan is by sheikh Mishary Rashed Alafasy, his website where you can download his adhan, duas, and quran recitation is http://www.muslimtents.com/alafasy/
Hi,
I've been using Guidance for months. After a certain period it stopped running. When I re-install it, it does work and after months it stops again.
Is there a solution for this?
Greetings,
Massimo
Please email us via the Contact page and we will try to troubleshoot the issue.
can you please tell me the name of the person that does the dua after the adhan?
Jzakallah
I do not know who the reciter of the dua is, I got it from this youtube video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HAs6YUiPses
In the guidance menu the date is written as 1433-01-19.
How can I change it to become Muharram 19, 1433?
To do this, open System Preferences and go to "Language & Text". In the "Formats" click the "Customize" button in the bottom right corner of the "Dates" section. You will now see rows for Short, Medium, Long and Full. In the Medium section click on the arrow on the month field and select the full month name. You may also change this format in other ways, such as removing the dashes and re-ordering the day, month and year.
Once you are done, restart Guidance and you should see the Hijri date in the new format.
