We are proud to announce Quran Reader HD 1.2 with lots of improvements, including retina support on the new iPad.

What took so long?

Now I'm sure a lot of people are wondering why adding in retina support took so long. Well, when the new iPad was announced with retina support we were very excited and knew that Quran Reader HD would look just amazing on that screen. We immediately started getting all our images ready at twice the resolution. But, when we finally got our hands on the new iPad to test out all our new high quality images, we were in a for a big shock. It ran slower on the iPad 3 than it did on the iPad 1! How could this be? As it turns out, rendering these full screen images at 2,048 x 1,536 was taking a long time, even with the new iPad's increased CPU power. So we had to completely rewrite the way we were loading these images just to make the iPad 3 as fast as the iPad 1 is for loading pages. After a lot of hard work, we are now able to pre-render the next and previous pages in the background so you never have to wait for a page to load. Even though we're loading extremely high quality images on the new iPad, the app stays quick and responsiveness (and for those of you with an iPad 1 or iPad 2 the app should be blazingly fast).

So what's new?

I'm glad you asked that. As I mentioned before, we have stunning new high quality pages and graphics for the new iPad's retina screen and a brand new and much faster backend to display those pages. We also gave portrait mode a complete overhaul with a beautiful new user interface. Much like Quran Reader for iPhone, you can now still see what side each page is on even though we're only showing one page at a time. We also added in background audio and a new continuous play feature allowing you to have the recitation continue on and play the entire Quran.

But thats not all

You'll find lots of tweaks and improvements throughout the entire app, from the syncing of the last read page through iCloud to being able to rotate while editing a note. Quran Reader HD is much more stable and polished, making it the best app for reading the Quran on the iPad.

What now?

Well go and download it! If you already have it, Quran Reader HD 1.2 is a free update and is waiting for you in the App Store. If you don't have it yet, now is the perfect time to grab it from the App Store. And of course stay tuned for even more features coming soon inshAllah.
